Flow Launches A Reference Wallet Implementation: Flow Wallet

VANCOUVER, CANADA — September 19, 2023 — Flow is the on-chain home for globally recognized Web3 projects and brands like Barbie, Doodles, NBA Top Shot, Hot Wheels NFT Garage, Star Wars, Ticketmaster, and more. A robust ecosystem of wallets has grown alongside the millions of users these projects have attracted to ensure they can keep their assets saf‍

As Flow grows – developing new features and abilities – it’s critical for the wallets in our ecosystem to leverage those developments to differentiate themselves and provide additional support for their users. 

With this in mind, the Flow Foundation is launching a new reference wallet on Flow: Flow Wallet. This wallet will demonstrate several key product possibilities for wallets on Flow, enabling Flow to capture the value of the design decisions and effort that went into making these features possible.

Flow Wallet will launch in mid-September and will be available on the Apple App Store, Google Play store and the Chrome extension store. It will be open source and use permissible licenses that enable other wallets to build upon its implementation, resulting in even better wallet offerings on Flow. There will also be ecosystem grants and bounties available to encourage community participation in its development.

Flow Wallet will demonstrate key features, such as account linking on Flow, which paves the way towards frictionless mainstream consumer onboarding to Web3 by providing mechanics to help users link and manage their linked application accounts. With account linking, users don’t need a wallet to sign up but can connect one with a click to access an entire universe of dapps. It’s an easy way for dapps to leverage Flow ecosystem products and connect to more than 22 million user accounts. 

Flow is committed to an open, thriving ecosystem of wallets on Flow. That’s why Flow Wallet is committed to not doing any app partnerships or promotions, nor will it generate revenue for Flow Foundation. Flow Wallet is meant to help propel the wallet ecosystem on Flow forward by demonstrating the key product possibilities for wallets on Flow, while providing open source components for wallets to build upon to create their even better wallets on Flow.
